Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 July 2026
This notice explains how Living Law Better collects, uses and protects your personal data, and the rights you have under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Who we are
Living Law Better ("we", "us", "our") is an independent campaign run by TBD Marketing Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 11227431), registered office 167-169 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5PF. TBD Marketing Ltd is the data controller responsible for the personal data described in this notice. As the campaign develops its governance may change, and we will update this notice if it does.
The data you share is held only for Living Law Better and is kept separate from TBD Marketing's own commercial activity and the founders' own businesses. We don't use it for anyone's sales or marketing, and we never sell it or share it for anyone else's marketing.
If you have any questions about this notice, want to exercise your rights, or wish to make a complaint, contact us at livinglawbetter@tbdmarketing.co.uk and we'll respond within 30 days.
What we collect
When you create, download or share a postcard using our Postcard Builder, and choose to give us your details, we collect:
- Your name (as entered in the "your name" field);
- Your email address;
- Your organisation (if you provide it);
- The postcard you created — including the category, the headline you chose, any name you entered for the person you were celebrating, and a copy of the finished postcard image; and
- Your consent choices — to receive updates, and (where you agree) for us to feature your pledge and postcard in our marketing — together with the date and time they were given.
We set one small essential cookie to remember your cookie choice. With your consent, we also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used and improve it; it sets cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*) to count visits and see which pages are useful. Google Analytics only loads if you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner — choose "Essential only" and it never runs, and no analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. We don't use advertising cookies, and we don't knowingly collect any special category (sensitive) personal data.
A note on the names you enter. A postcard may include the name of a colleague you are celebrating. Please only enter details you are comfortable sharing, and avoid including any sensitive personal information in the free-text fields.
How and why we use your data
We use your personal data to:
- operate the Postcard Builder and let you download and share your postcard;
- send you occasional updates about Living Law Better — such as news, stories, resources and events — where you have asked us to; and
- understand, in aggregate, how the campaign is being used so we can improve it.
Our lawful basis for sending you updates is your consent. Our lawful basis for operating the tool and keeping a record of the postcards created is our legitimate interests in running and improving the campaign.
Featuring your pledge in our marketing
When you create a postcard or pledge and tick the box to say you're happy for us to, we may feature it in Living Law Better's marketing. That can include the words of your pledge, your name and organisation, and the finished postcard, used across our social media, printed and digital postcards, our website, presentations and other campaign materials.
Our lawful basis for this is your consent, which you give by ticking the relevant box. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing livinglawbetter@tbdmarketing.co.uk, and we'll stop using your pledge in any new materials — although we may not be able to recall or remove things that have already been printed, posted or shared. If you don't tick that box, we'll still let you download and share your own postcard; we just won't use it in our own marketing.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data, and we never share it for third parties' own marketing. We use trusted service providers to run the campaign, who process data only on our instructions:
- Supabase — our database and hosting provider, which stores signups securely in the European Union (Ireland).
- An email delivery provider, which we will use to send updates. Every email we send will include an unsubscribe link.
- Google — where you consent to analytics, Google Analytics helps us measure and improve the site. You can opt out at any time using our cookie banner or Google's Analytics opt-out.
We may also disclose data where required by law.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored within the European Economic Area (EEA). Where you consent to Google Analytics, some data may be processed by Google outside the UK and EEA (including in the United States) under appropriate safeguards, such as the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. If any other provider processes data outside the UK or EEA, we will ensure similar safeguards are in place.
How long we keep it
We keep your details for as long as you are happy to hear from us. We don't keep your data for longer than we need to, and we review what we hold periodically. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we will remove your personal details from our active records, and delete or anonymise your information, within 30 days — except where we need to keep a minimal record to honour your opt-out.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct inaccurate data;
- ask us to delete your data;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, our use of your data;
- ask for a copy of your data in a portable format; and
- withdraw your consent at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email livinglawbetter@tbdmarketing.co.uk. We will respond to any such request within 30 days.
Unsubscribing and withdrawing consent
You can stop receiving updates at any time by using our unsubscribe page, by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by emailing us. Withdrawing consent won't affect anything we did with your data before you withdrew it.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we handle your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can raise a complaint with us at any time by emailing livinglawbetter@tbdmarketing.co.uk, and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date above, and for significant changes we'll let you know.
